it looks like a softwood species to me and i think it might be douglas fir. what did it smell like when you turned it?

It had a noticeable smell especially when I was cutting it with the saw. But I couldn't place it my nose isn't very reliable

The changing process of making a wood bowl is very interesting. I can see the raw materials into a special bowl which has its unique lines.

It's great to see these changes and make you have a sense of achievement.

Do you buy woodworking kits from one woodshop?

Been given some kitchen worktop offcuts. Turned the small one as a trial run then glued to bigger pieces together to make the bigger bowl

Much nicer shape / form on the second one ..... but why are you using off cuts and not nice select pieces from trees ? ( I am assuming you are in the tree work industry )....

Nice idea and looks good, think I have a bit of Iroko worktop somewhere, might try gluing them at 90 degree to see how that works out.
