But Bowlander what would you have done differently if you'd seen his post?

You paid the going rate that most people pay for the correct amount of logs.

If he had sold you 0.7m3 of solid logs then you'd have simply paid more. If you wanted more why didn't you buy two bags?

If you'd paid him £100 expecting a "ton" of logs then you'd have something to complain about. I agree that sellers can be confusing but this sounds very clear and besides you've got a chainsaw and axes so you understand wood volumes and fair prices.

I sell hardwood logs in dumpy bags for £60 per bag which i must admit do tell customers the bags hold approx 3/4 of a cubic metre. There are some very valid points from both customers and sellers on this thread and can see each of your views but as a seller i will now certainly be advertising them as dumpy bags and not cubes.

I dont think the seller has done anything wrong nor has the buyer. Does the buyer know the size of a dumpy bag? Surly yes? Therefor the buyer if he is chainsaw qualified and has two splitting axes and has processed his own wood before will surly have some idea to how much split timber will fit into a dumpy bag....? Yes/no?

Well the simple answer is no. Cos I processed wood into stacks on the farm. I've not filled dumpy bags with logs myself. Not ever. I took the wood home in polyprop sacks. I don't know how many polyprop sacks in a dumpy bag either. So I couldn't visualise how much wood I'd get before I bought it.

Regardless of all the sarcasm etc, you may be unhappy with the quantity of logs you got. The point is if the bag was full, then you got a reasonable deal and are unlikely to do much better. Take into account the value of the unsplit timber, cost of splitting, cost of filling bag, cost of loading van, cost of delivering logs, cost of driving home again. It all adds up. I don't know what you do for a living but I know a lot of folk who would earn that £50 before your seller would of had time to get the axe out and split the first log.

You asked your seller how big his bags were and he told you they were about 0.7m3 not that they would hold this much in stacked logs.
