Hi all looking your views on this issue! Currently i am in a minimum wage dead end job in retail and want to make a break into the arb world. So far i have managed to save up enough to buy my own ppe, and i am getting a day a week with a local firm as a goundie (labourer), dragging brash, feeding chippers, brushing and raking! The experience is great and i am loving each day! My problem lies in the fact that i need to gather the funds for cs30/31! Thats the guts of £1000 which aint easy to save! Is it worth hitting the credit card a rattle! All views welcome! Thanks in advance!

I would say NO. not worth getting into debt for.

I would suggest gaining some experience on the saw under supervision, would benefit you more.

Just because you have cs 30/31 it wont be a massive financial benefit without working experience.

That's what I done, finance enough money to take time out of the job I used to do travel to the training venue buy all my ppe saws climbing kit and complete loads of courses. If you can afford the repayments then go for it, the only thing is it still took me a little while to find the work I wanted. Three years on I have some good experience under my belt and earning pretty good money.

Worth getting into debt for? That's your decision but I say not at credit card rates, if you have to get debt, get a loan

NO. It's not worth getting into debt for. Speaking from experience even after getting tickets you will still be chasing odd days here and there. This industry is now saturated with only so much work. Stick where you are now if its paying the bills.

Have a look at LANTRA website. They will give you a lot of advice and help you to find funding in your area. Have a look at your local college as well.

Thanks for all the replies so far guys! The general consensus seems to be keep plucking away and getting experience under my belt! Paying the bills is ok but its not easy to go to a soul destroying job day in day out!
