Honey Bees and other pollinators

Been working in gardens the last two weeks where the trees are in full bloom, the shrubs are in full flower and the borders are also in bloom. The one distinct thing that is missing are the bees and other pollinators. Any one else noticed.

its been a miserable year for most things that live outdoors, I put blossom on the hawthorn as three weeks late, is it all down to the icelandic volcano??

I,be taken a 50% hit on my hives. Lots of factors which affect the strength of colonies. I reckon one of the major problems is poorly mated Queens due to early spring and bad weather last year when the bees should have been flourishing. Everything this year in the beekeeping world is delayed by a few weeks and seems to mirror the seasons. I reckon about 6 weeks late. At time of writing my bees are starting to flourish in the hives and Will be visiting a garden near you.

No honey bees to be seen here in Nth Co Antrim, but umteen bumble bees.

Our Hawthorn/May blossom is only properly in bloom this past hot hot hot hot hot week.

Absolutly magnificent, driving with ALL windows down to capture the heady aroma hanging in the still air.

Plenty of rape in flower recently. I expect the bees will be in there rather than messing about in gardens.

I have seen plenty of hover flies about.

Had a nice big swarm appear in one of the orchards on Tuesday and they seem to have taken up residence in an empty hive there. Lots of activity there over the last couple of days.

No shortage of pollinators here, including lots of queen wasps, up to 8 in doors by the end of each day. Had to take out 3 small nests in a shed the other day.

Had these in my parents garden yesterday, I've never known there to be so many swarms.

We were working at a house on Tuesday and there was a swarm of bees on a big oak. Two beekeeper a came to try and get them but only managed to annoy them and they all flew off.
