Anyone tried corn oil ?!! :)

I would imagine since engine oils have evolved to allow them to stay in the engine for 20,000 miles and hold the dirt in suspension there will be alot more crap in it than there was 20 years ago.

Recently my nose has been sensitive to the smell of the chainsaw bar oil... i use normal mineral chainsaw oil and im sick of it. Cant wait to finish this tub and try something else!

So... corn oil, rapeseed oil, veg oil or bio tack from clarkes?

If any of the first 3 are ok id like to try them and save some money!

You can help remove metal particulates by placing two stripmagnets on the oil filter, when you change your filter you remove particulates stuck to the magnets.

the old magnetic strips on Learner "L" plates are best

Sounds like a good idea but I would be a bit concerned if the magnets came off and the filings were dumped in the engine in one go. Some vehicles also have a centrifugal filter which seems to work well. I dont think you can beat a good service at half the recommended miles or hours.

Why not wash your used bog roll as well?

Why anyone would even contemplate using this filth in a saw worth hundreds of pounds is utterly beyond me.

And the fact that it is carcinogenic might put you off as well.

You should be specifying rapeseed where possible. All the supermarkets typically label it "vegetable oil" and the ingredients will say "100% rapeseed oil". Rape has the highest lubricity of the veg oils (castor excepted) and is roughly £1 - 1.20/litre. Lack of anti-fling additive can be an issue on 25"+ bars or poor oilers. Turn your oiler up to max!
