Evening,

Found this pear on ebay that i put the opening bid on, been outbid and was considering how much i was willing to pay so has a close look at the photo. The end grain appears to be absolutely riddled with worm holes, im guessing its firewood. second opinion if you dont mind. I was getting excited about a lump of this rare wood, but think ill have to wait.

Trunk of English Pear tree wood for joiner, furniture, craft, turning, arts... | eBay

Thanks

i'm looking at that pear too but didnt realise it had woodworm in the end till i read your post think i might pass on it now.

even if its got worm in it i still think that there could be some nice planks cut from it and they could be treated and used for coffee table slabs.

i was going to go up to £30 myself and if it stays cheap then why not take a punt.

im not the bidder by the way.....

Thats what im questioning, its 20miles from me, if its cheap is it worth the punt, its old so i reckon it riddled right through, or will it just be the ends? Still dont know.

steer clear james,,from my experience thats far too risky, and having milled a fair few bits ,not had much luck finding good charachter stuff, apple is a different story,,,

Oh heck! My log shed is full of apple.

That pear is full of worm but how deep they have gone is a different matter. AFAIK worm don't go deep.

From the colour it is obviously well seasoned.
