So now my "refresher" training 2 years ago makes sense! sorry for bumbping this thread but ive only just found this (via google AGAIN!) this is insane, I have used a saw from a rope and harness every day for 24 years.

No there not invalid, the requirements are for occasional operators should refresh every 2 years and professional operators every 5 years.

the refresher course also covers up to date legislation,

its not re assessment

these requirements have always been part of HSE recommendations, it's nothing new.

all you multi ticketed wood cutters and groundies out there are all forgetting one vital point in all these proposed re-certifications and new training proposalls, not ONE of your tickets is a legally required document. all you require is insurancwe and a letter stating you are safe and competent in what you are doing, all the certificates are issued by "training" companies with only one thing on there mind..... the generation of CASH, even your H&S documents state they are only an advisory document.

Who would give you a letter stating you were safe and competent?

I wanted to be a Brain surgeon but all the universities wanted me to spend 5 years with them for basic certification then more training after that,

that's Outrageous you can only operate on one patient at a time how can that be dangerous

These unis are just after putting bums on seats.

I think that this FORCED re assessment of chainsaw competence is taking the mickey in the extreme. Firstly NPTC certs are no guarantee of competence, they are a MINIMUM standard, that the regular user is soon considerably better than.

 

The FORCED resit of these assesments forces employers like my boss to fork out THOUSANDS every five years and is a complete waste of training budget and the industry wonders why we dont train in new areas! BECAUSE our employers have been forced to basicaly train and retrain for the SAME bloody task theyve been doing for five years. Thios industry is a joke, and legitimate business is being preyed upon by this kind of outrageous formality.

 

They want everyone to toe the line and be legitimate and up thier game and with one stupid over the top bit of regulation they set back the whole thing. One step too far IMO, the industry just took a step and a BIG step backwards.

just remember what they did to the gas fitter changed from cose to gas safe all that did was make the training companys lots of money are they trying the same with us
