Surf adventure for the boys or plain stupid?

I did a job for some guys in a nature reserve in The Gambia last year. We got on good and have kept in touch.

This year they have invited me on a surf trip to surf a piont break they recently discovered in Southern Senegal. The only problem is that the foriegn office advise against all travel to the area due to land mines, armed rebels and a real chance of kidnapping.

I've done a fair bit of travelling and have been to Senegal briefly before, my contacts down there assure me its safe. Would you go?

i suppose if you have contacts in the area and they say its safe, i wouldn't argue as they are on the ground so to speak and see what's happening minute by minute whereas the fco probably hasn't got the latest info. Personally, i'd just go with gut feeling.

Is this the same trip you asked me about last week?? I personally would go and enjoy the chance to surf a new spot, its a once in a lifetime opportunity. If I had a passport and a bit more spare cash, I would of been joining you.

Same trip. Just started spinning out a bit when I read the Foriegn office website. Wifey and daughter are staying home, looks like I will be doining it alone, no takers yet.

Seriously,I'd go.

By the sounds of it,your mates know the score.

This is the only post that makes any sense on this thread. Even if your kidnapped and tortured for six monthe before some horrible lonely death, make sure you get some web access and let us know. otherwise it'll all be wasted. Go for it. Pipeline!!!!
