What is the likely next step from Petzl? Total product recall? I guess you guys with ZZs wouldn't mind that if you got an 'over-engineered' replacement. Although they obviously can't re-design and manufacture replacements anytime soon. Looks a potential mess from their perspective - particularly after such pre-launch hype. Maybe the friction hitch won't become extinct after all.

 

The next step by Petzl maybe absolutely nothing as there may not even be a problem with the device, we just do not know for sure and will have to wait for the official response on Tuesday. I think Pezl's reaction has been commendable so let's wait and see and not get to carried away.

 

I think one thing is for sure us ZZ users must make sure we do not allow our karabiners to become loaded off axis potentially overloading the top attachment point, but this is basic practice and taught in nptc basic tree climbing.

I want to make a formal complaint

When someone posts about a tree or fungi they should also put the Common name like

 

Prunus cerasifera - (Cherry Plum)

 

Juglans Nigra - (Black Walnut)

 

Quercus Robur - (English Oak)

 

I cant stand using Latin names,

 

So in future I propose that anyone not putting common names should be picked up on it, if they offend a second time they should be given thirty lashes

 

 

Shame about the species capital, still room for some work then

Shoot me down if this is silly .... Could you attach the eye ( the bit that failed in the picture ) with a termination knot of your preference ( bunt line or bowline or whatever ) and not use a bina then there would be no chance of it side loading etc ???

I did suggest this a while ago on the other ZZ thread. I was then fortunately reminded about how hard it would be to untie the knot after load.

You would get a lot of wear in the rope thats tied through it and you'd have to untie /retie every tie you changed anchor points
