My wife had a go today because I wasn't listening to her about car seats for the little one and how she has to listen to me bang on about trees on a daily basis. . .

Was at a rather stuffy bbq last summer,and another tree man that i vaguely knew, who seemed equally bored, came over and after introducing ourselves he remarked on the large sycamore in our hosts garden. I told him ide already dismantled it down to the stump in my minds eye,and he admitted he'd done the same earlier.

My fiancé correctly gave me the Latin ident for oak and silver birch whilst picking up a take away from the local village last week....

 

She must be the one!!!!!!!!

My kids were getting bored with me practising my tree ID until they decided that the Latin names are like spells from Harry Potter. Then they started running round with stick wands shouting things like "Betula pendula" and "Corylus avellana"!

 

For some reason they also found any of the Pinus genus wildly amusing
