Well, for my part, I done a 10week course and was told I'd never make it commerically :blushing: even though I never intended to be some Billy Whizz climber just to be competant enough to run my own company.

Now we take on jobs far and above the few basic certs I carry.:thumbup1:

After all, who is out there regulating it all anyway?:confused1:

Ty

I'm going to stick my neck out now and admit I don't have any a chainsaw ticket, but I've been using them for work for over 20 years and in that time been asked twice for my ticket, only reason I have'nt done it is that every time I've been booked on the course its been cancelled for one reason or another, I do have an NPTC part 1 spraying ticket, but as I only occasionally do a bit of knapsack spraying, never had a need to any more of the courses, admittedly I'm not using a saw day in day out, it mostly for hedge laying and firewood, but I have done my share of felling and also plenty of windblown when clearing fence lines, always wear my ppe and work in a manner safe and suitable for the job in hand, so there you go standing by to get shot down for not having a piece of paper :001_cool:

I have city and guilds in horticulture obtained whilst I was on the youth robbery scheme. knapsack few GSCEs a class 1 HGV = C+E and a basic lantra cs30/31 equivalent. Only thing ever asked for is the drivers license for insurance records.

Im of the school I have seen qualified brilliance fail often in the workplace and would personally rather work with someone who is totally unacademic and illiterate who understands the real world and gets on with it. I remember a fully qualified college boy asking my workmate.

"How do you start the forklift?"

"Use the Key I think"

The qualified lad was the only one of us that had the ticket.

The training industry is exactly that a money making enterprise, a bit like christmas and its everywhere. We do need regulating and teaching safe practice, but why does it take 3 days to teach 3 hours worth of training? costing a fortune in time and money.

Rant over until someone ignites me again.
