How to make an emergency call

All my mobiles have always said "emergency call only" when there is no signal.

 

Why would they pre-program SIM cards with 112 (which is not that well known) instead of 999????????

 

 

Because one day we will probably drop 999 and join the rest of the world on 112: 112's been valid here for a long time.

My bloody phone won't send a text to 112 as it regards it as an invalid number. Stupid smart phones!

I believe your GPS location is automatically sent when you ring 112 as well. Very useful number to know!

I can have a number advertised in the yellow pages that not mine, but when they ring it it goes to my phone.

 

Is this really not possible for 999 and 112???

Following on from this is the ICE system.

 

Basically it stands for In Case of Emergency.

 

Just put ICE before your wife/girfriend's/relative's name in your contacts on your phone (e.g. ICE Anna) and the emergency services will use this as a first contact in the event of an incident.

 

Here's hoping none of us need to use it!

JCB Prosmart (awful phone by the way, never get one). Runs Android but with some irritating little bits missing from the operating system. I assume this is one of them.

I don't think so. The 112 service knows where you are by measuring your signal between the telephone masts.

 

When you own a Tomtom car navigation you should use that one too. When you press their emergency button you get the exact location or even the longitude and latitude numbers.

911 also works in London as an emergency number so I was told on my last first aid think it maybe in other major cities to.
