felling wedges

Hello,

A bit green when it comes to the world of wedges but I am after a wedge to fell a tree in the opposite direction of lean.

So plastic wedges are about as good as a chocolate tea spoon and a hi lift will do the job but are pricey and fall to bits when you let rip on them.

Has any body got any suggestions? I see there are lots of metal ones with barbs etc but are they any good? What do you use?

Cheers mark

Depends on how big a tree and how much it is leaning the wrong way . You could do a cushion cut and use a felling bar ( longer the better ) or if its a biggun as has been said bottle jack . Climb up and put a rope round as well maybe . If it only a tiddler and not leaning too far my choice would be the felling bar .

:confused1: I carry about 6 various sized plastic wedges, and 3 hi lifts, I drift them in with a dead blow hammer, never had a problem with them not doing the job. If its a bit dodgy, use other things to help, ropes, winches, trucks they're ll there to be used to get the job done safely.

If you hit the hi lift square on top, it won't break, if you catch it with a glancing swing it will. Put a couple of rings on the top (they come with one)

Plastic wedges can be trimmed back to shape if you do nick them with the saw, steel will mess the chain up big time.
