My only possible help is that on all invoices and quotes we now clearly state that the costs documented are only for the taking down/felling of the tree(s) and once felled/taken down they become the property of myself and i am therefore responsible for removing the arrisings in any way i see fit . Usually the arisings being wood chip are donated to local colleges and one market garden for people with special needs !! So in a nut shell i dont charge to chip anything and anything that i do chip is mine .

A mewp is a mewp , it's plant , if you mount a chipper on the rear of a land rover and change the use on the log book you can drive it at 16 and on red with free tax , and never mot it , just like a concrete pump lorry

But to be on the road or road side work it has to be white.

So mogs are useless for our application.... other than running a chipper and pulling trees over... ?

If you live in a sleepy village or have a great relationship with the plod run a mug hassle free , if you drive past vosa every day then run it like you would a 7.5 ton lorry , unimogs are hassle

You can try that but they are just going to say that the chip is part of a paying job and comes under hire or reward

how does it stand with a chip box on the back then?

this said vehicle had a tacho in it, never could understand how it could be driven without tacho being used.

i can see what you mean , but surely if it is made clear that the paid job is to take the tree down only there is no reward in chipping the brash ? of course i love chipping so i wild be following my guys round chipping anything i could lol just a shame i could not charge for it

i really can not see that every mog user runs their mog on an o licence

To clarify that. A concrete pump lorry is up to an 8 wheeler LGV with a gross weight of over 30 tonnes driven by a person on a car license with red diesel no tachograph or usual HGV rules, capable of 56mph that beats me. Probably without MOT as well

Recovery trucks are MOT exempt as well!

For OP I cannot see the VOSA dude knowing what he is fully on abouts. Yes they are clamping down on plant on the road such as a dumper, telehandler carrying materials on highway, Looking forwards I would get a waste license and an O license, its going that way. Maybe if you talk it out with him and "Ask his advice" With written proof so you can understand it.

These people can tend to be power hungry failures from the real world that enjoy bullying. They did it to an operator I drive for, they looked at his tachograph records and chased him for months because he was a speeder, he went above 40mph like every trucker nearly does. They asked him to download to digicard and couldn't do it. So they asked him to call in to do it. He had to go twice because they didn't know how to do it! They talk the talk, doing it in the real world is harder for them. Sorry for slight derail but hope it shows what you are dealing with a bit.
