New spikes??

Evening all! Looking to purchase a new set of climbing spikes, thinking of Distel Gecko aluminium with Velcro upper straps & leather bottom. Never wore Velcro straps before does it take abiit of greeting used to?

 

Anybody use these / thoughts please. Any other makes I should be looking at budget of £250 max

i got a pair of the stein ones with velcro and seem to be good and some guys i work with use the gecko's and rate them!

best advise i can give u with spikes is buy Distel

Aluminium or carbon

the carbon ones are nice u just got to remember to take them off as soon as u get out the tree thats what i brought after trying 2 types of spikes out i hated spiking till i brought my carbon ones

The velcro is nice around the legs, wouldn't know around the boot. But would rate them even if they are the only ones ive properly used

I use Bashlin curved shank with long gaffs , leather straps . You can get them with velcro too . I find them excellent , think I paid £170 £190 ish

Only ones I've used but not had any problems .

dont get the ones with the velcro attachment to the foot, impossible to get tight enough and come loose. i didnt feel safe in mine and sold them. and dont get the angular gaffs there useless on small stems, opt for the straight pointy ones. I have a pair of buckinghams, sturdy but uncomfortable. when they go i think id opt for the aluminium distels with leather boot strap.

Ive got the ally ones with velco straps top and bottom and they are wicked next pair will be a carbon set. Recently sharpened the spikes with a flat file and they came up super super sharp. They are easy to get used to the surface area of the top velco strap is real large which helps distribute the pressure of your leg,

I have the straight bashlin gaffs (leather straps) are the velcro shin straps good and worth the money?? Thanks

Hi mate!

 

I would highly recommend Bashlins with a straight shank!

 

I used to use Stein X2s with the velcro but wasn't a massive fan of the way they fitted and felt.

 

Also the velcro gets pretty crappy when everything starts sticking to it.
