My grinder ate a gas pipe!

Are they seriously expecting people to remove stumps by hand-digging...

No they expect you to dig round the stump and check for pipes before grinding, it's really not practical and would be cheaper to hit a pipe from time to time.

I dont care how careful you are there is always the possibility of hitting an mdpe underground main whether gas or water. Service layers are contractors and rarely bury them at the correct depth. The later mdpe pipes have a tracer strip in them so you can find them with a cat and genny . If you are doing domestic work you are better off having a squeeze off tool in your kit. These are cheap from a plumbers merchant and will at least clamp of the leak before a flood happens or an explosion from gas. Essential part of the kit and takes seconds to put on and clamp down, it also wont damage the pipe so a coupling can be fitted for a fix.

Or if you are on commercial work like this. This one we have clamped a big waterpipe with . Without it we would have caused thousands of pounds worth of damage.

The fight of who`s fault it is can rage on but at least you can avert a disaster.

The small squeeze off is about £10 and will do up to 32mm gas or water so will cover most domestic situations.
