How the job is risk assessed and carried out will depend upon the skill' date=' competency and experience of the people carrying out the work.

Tom's method involved no work at height and went all according to his plan.

Avoiding work at height is what we are supposed to do where possible.

In most cases, other factors would dictate dismantling a tree like this.[/quote']

I am just asking a question. I am not trying to say that the way Tom did it was wrong. I was just curious to the reasons of why.

At the end of the day every body went home safely. A good says work.

Sent from my Galaxy arse using tupping talk.

Check ALL the simple things first.

The reason for felling is simple, to dismantle that would have taken days, I did contemplate felling each stem individually, however although 2 of them would have gone of their own accord the third would have required winching, this would have involved being 15' up stropped in to a heavily back leaning stem as it was winched over. I have done this before but it is not the safest of operations and best avoided. The other reason for felling is cost, don't get me wrong I am not taking chances for the sake of a few quid, but at the end of the day I have bought this timber standing, I make my money selling it at roadside, time is money.

We have managed to fell process and extract on average around 15-18 ton a day, this is with 2 men the first week and 3 the second, this is not bad but any delays would seriously affect profit.:001_smile:
