All diesel starts off as kerosene you just have to add the right oil in the right quantity to turn it into diesel and add a dye to turn into red diesel. You will upset Customs & Excise if you do it yourself and get caught as each fuel has a different tax duty rate.

As for tractors my chinese Jinma was designed to run on kerosene not diesel. When run on diesel it would produce a plume of fine smoke on kerosene it was clear.

Doesn't it depend which grade of heating oil/kero it is as to weather it will run long term or not ? If lubricate is the main issue just add a gallon of cooking oil to every 5 of the heating oil that'll keep it lubed.

heating oil, please clarify, 28 second or 32 second, both classed as heating oils, better known as kerosine and gas oil, your diesel engine will run on both, and as for the lubricating properties, since the introduction of ultra low sulphur diesel fuel, there about the same, if you are worried add 10% two stroke oil. and as for all the fuss about vosa and customs, it matters not one iota what fuel you run plant on, it doesnt have a V5 or a registration no. you can run it on whatever you like, they dont care. as a perfect example of iterchangeability the military now operate on a one fuel in the theatre of operation policy, and guess what it is......JP8, or FS11, better known as aviation fuel, jetA1........or as we used to call it ESSO blue. so all the military vehicles that are diesel seem to run on "heating oil" no bother
