Both really. My wife now gives me decent soft drinks. Which are ok, but don't taste anything like as good a nice Red or some real Ale. I've tried the none alcohol stuff, but IMO it tastes awful and is bloody expensive. I generally started drinking with me evening meal. My wife is an excellent cook and we always have quality home made food. In the past I would say "I'm gonna quit drinking through the week, everyone says heavy drinking is bad for you". But then my wife would present me with a lovely steak, Spaghetti Bolognese, roast chicken dinner, and I would immediately  say "oh this needs a nice red" or "a good Ale"

And once I start I tended to keep going. I've always been a guzzler, I've never met any one who drinks pints as fast as me, my mates always joke about it. But the heartburn was really annoying me and I wanted to shed some weight, so I decide to try quitting drinking every day but Fridays.

Now I drink gallons of Tea.

I can't have been addicted, as once I had good valid reasons to quit, I just stopped and have absolutely zero cravings etc. My wife, who is a very modest drinker, at first said she would quit through the week too, but she sometimes says "oh I really fancy a glass of Red" and will get one. I pull her leg and say she has no will power. But I have no interest in joining her.

As for the mood swings, that's never been a problem. I'm no angel, but drink makes no difference.

Read what you have put Dave. How do you know you were the same person drunk as sober ? it defies logic.

The accumulative units in 2 bottles of wine would put most regular drinkers over the drink drive limit most mornings after.

So apart from the finances which you have admitted to, when you were drinking at home were you drinking alone or with partner and children around you seeing your mood swings as you got more drunk and having to adapt to them ?

Denial is a form of justification for a problem.

Has booze harmed my finances? Define please.

When I drink at home, do I have mood swings and does my partner/kids have to adapt to them? Define drunk please?

Do I deny that I may occasionally have a propensity to drink? Nope, I'd rather drink wine than tea of an evening but not always....

I will not deny that to some, drink is evil. I will not deny that to some is harmful to their health and ultimately those around them. I will not deny that alcoholic addiction change financially ruinous. But then, life has a habit of doing the above without alcohol being involved too.

I tend to look at things in spectrums although I also hate labels as a reason or excuse too. At one end of the range is the sort of person who is lucky enough to get through life in total, world, happiness. The other has the complete scumbags who are, or should be, locked away to protect society. There are those who are unable to do things because of physical or mental issues and those who reach extreme old age in a very good physical condition. There are people who unfortunately have a short life through accident and scum who live a long life when others would,d rather they didnt.

I agree that alcohol can be harmful but to some folk, apart from money and extra weight, it isn't.....Let's agree to go follow our paths without rancour and not derail Paul's thread further. Best wishes to you Paul.

Read what you have put. You are asking me to define things and then saying lets agree to disagree. Denial is easier than facing up .

PeteB and too you too mate! Time Gentleman please[emoji16] I have a suggestion and I think it will be a seriously good idea for this Forum.Who has the "bottle" to start a Thread for AA/NA/GA related stuff. It would be a great source of help and advice for something that is very much needed.I would be but I am Treetotal for life now...I'm about to tell the tale of an Ivy clad dismantle using a battery saw and other MEWP related pictures and I feel a dedicated thread for people on here is long overdue with such important posts being forthcoming. All the best cheers.Have a safe and happy weekend Arbtalkers.20210310_072447.jpeg
