Summer holidays are approaching and 11 year old son wants some pocket money jobs. Obviously cant get involved with machinery but any ideas gratefully received. Need things that keep them interested without danger.

Mining, chimney sweeping, pick pocketing.....the list is endless, you just need to use a little imagination.

Little is the operative work here Mick.Due to a 12 year olds small stature and natural fearless nature, any dangerous job with tight acess is suitable.

Steeple Jack,Pipe Cleaner,Boiler De-Coking,etc.

I would say limit him to juggling 2 burning chainsaws at first, until he has got the hang of it.

FWIW I was using hedgecutters, strimmers, mowers, and tractors from the age of 12, and I still have all my limbs.

At around twelve I was mowing peoples lawns, weeding gardens, cleaning slab paths, probably washed a few cars till the Europeans moved in on my patch. Twelve is a tricky age, some are more mature and responsible than others.

If you give kids kids jobs then dont expect them to work like men.

Get him on the tools and give the lad a chance, most things can be stitched back on or glued nowadays
