We have the 395, 066 and 660. I love the 395; great saw for felling with a 24 inch bar but it's always in the bloody shop. Three chain adjuster screws, three exhausts as the screws holding them on keep breaking and it leaks chain oil like there's no tomorrow. On a felling or cross cutting job I always pull the husky out first as I love the grunt but we have had no problems with the Stihl gear in the same time. If it was my cash I'd spin it on the Stihl but it'd be a tough decision.

395 has lower vibes? Obviously Stihl fans will steer you to the 660 and Husky fans the other, so:

MS660 7.1bhp 7.3kg f handle vibes 4.1 m/s2 rear 5.9 m/s2

395XP 6.6bhp 7.9kg f handle vibes 6.5 m/s2 rear 10.2 ms/2

395 has lower vibes - I don't think so. Power to weight ratio - clear to see which is better.

I've heard it said that runnning a 25" bar the husky might be faster in softwood and running a 30" or longer the Stihl beats it in any wood, especially ripping.

Specs doesn't always tell the full truth!

...and with a 36" bar (that the OP specified), the extra weight (and outboard clutch) of the 395xp will actually may a help, and not a disadvantage.

Its is just the muffler which holds the 395xp back and is the only difference to the U.S spec Stubby. A muffler mod puts it straight up to 7.1+ hp.

The 395 beats the 660 hands down milling so that's false info whoever seems to think the 660 is faster. Theres no comparison over a 28" bar the 395 is ahead without a doubt.

My 395 is a "westie" 3 port muffler ( including the original ) full wrap aftermarket handle ( bit better quality than Huskie one ) big dawgs etc etc so I thinking its at least a 7.1hp . Got a Walker saw shop sticker on the air box cover but not sure if its been done or just the sticker so could be more . Pulls a 36" .404 all right though ..
