What vehicle and gear did you start off with?

I had an old beat up L200 but quickly changed for.a.tatty old.cabstar. I recon your best off running cheap tippers into the ground and spending your money on a good chipper. Vehicles are nothing but money pits, but a good chipper holds its money and is relatively trouble free.

 

Good advice, a second hand chipper is the worst thing I ever bought, never again!!

a series 2a Landie pickup and a dodgy 8' trailer, a second hand 020AV, a 25m length of discarded Army abseil rope and a Willans T22..how I survived that lot I don't know!

flat bed sherpa pickup, wooden body. 026 and plenty of three strand rope which was used for climbing , lowering and then tieing down the load, (chippers were not common when i started:blushing:)

Yes, my first employment was without chippers, and tying the brash down with your climbing rope at the end of the day was normal. Still got that three strand though, its doing fine!

Ex army 110 landrover pick up with high ply sides, echo cs3400,Husky 61, BQ pole pruner, plus other small hand tools. Then bought a Timber wolf 18/100G, and a Ifor 8x5 tipper. Bigger jobs ment more brash to clear so bought 130 tipper Landrover (which I still run as main truck) then bigger chipper when large site clearance job came up, Timberwolf 150 DHB. Alot more saws know Sthil, Husky and that old Echo,ranging from 33cc to 120cc + hedge cuters, strimmers.

I'm still in the vehicle I started in, ford focus estate, boo-yah! But then I only subby so it's ok! One day I'll truck myself up, or else just blow woodchip through the sunroof! Good times!

Nissan Navara double cab which was also the daily transport, an old caravan chassis trailer a new MS230, biscuit tin 020AV and B&Q hedge trimmers.

 

The trailer soon made way to a 4" arbor eater chuck and duck chipper which served me well for a year or so then got the 6" timberwolf I still have.

 

I sold the Navara and bought a 130 defender flat bed non tipper which evolved over a year into a full tipper with arb body. This after 4 years made way for a transit.

 

Everything has been bought without the need for finance, all saws and trimmers are now less than 2 years old.

 

It's a small set up but it makes me a decent amount of money.
