Hi all..

Interested to know how we started off and what with...

Basically ive got a ford escort van, which most of the time gets me through most jobs, other times i can borrow a nissan cabstar for the bigger jobs.

The plan is to save and get my own truck and one day chipper... :001_rolleyes:

got some saws and trimmers etc.. one day save and get newer ones :001_rolleyes:

but when you started in the industry what vehicle and equipment did you have to start off with and what have you progressed to?

pictures would be good!

When I started I had an old Talbot Express tipper truck, 025, 019T, blower, hedge trimmer and a few other odds & ends... happy days....!

Now that I'm just an 'amateur' I have more shiny stuff but I don't have a tipper anymore and just use my old Discovery. I don't do anything with chip, it's all disposed of by my 'clients', and I have a 12' Ifor Williams trailer for moving cord wood.

I went on my own with a 10k loan, with that I bought a used LDV, firewood processor, ms200t, ms460, Stihl blower, and topped up my climbing gear(already had a few bits and bobs). Since then i've packed in firewood and just contract climb.....ditched the ldv in favour of a Navara...ample room for the climbing gear I need to carry and a tad more reliable :001_smile:

Smiley Transit tipper, ms250 & ms200t. But a nice new climbing kit. Anything less than a transit size tipping truck is a waste of time IMO specially with no chipper.

Now have an Iveco daily and l200 a few more saws, proper stein lowering gear, and a 625i &935i the former is for sale if anyone's interested

Started with a Transit tipper, useless for free work. After two months bought a Camon 5" tow along chipper, dreadful/useless.

After two years bought a U1200 and 9" jensen PTO. Brilliant.

Most vehicles are mate!

Navara with tipping trailer here, big mistake. Sacked the trailer and bought a doggy old Entec and a VW LT petrol that did 150 miles on a tank.

By the time I stopped subbing 5 days a week I had a 200T, a Husky 351, a 260 and a 440.

Started with a Renault Trafic van and trailer, then got a Series 2a Ex Army Landrover and a bigger trailer. A load of Homelite and Echo chainsaws and two sets of live line pruning rods and off we went.

Finished with 130 single cab, Iveco 35.10 4X4, County Transit, Single wheel Transit, Twin Wheel Transit, Vauxhall Astravan, U1000 Mog, Bedford MK4x4 plus two for spares, Fordson Major with Loader (+ 2 in bits/scrap). two GreenMech chippers and an earlyish Arboreater. A lot of stihl saws, loads of fibreglass ladders, 150+ live line rods, and nothing but trouble forever until it went bump!:blushing:

Ended with nowt but good memories and dented dignity...

I started out with very little and being a frugal fellow, I still have most of it left too.
