Argon cylinder refill (( not }}

Rental of bottles works out real expensive. I have found a company who charge a deposit of £30 on a bottle, a £48 'right of use ' for 3 yrs, and £28 per refill.

Its a smallish bottle, about 3ft high, can't remember the litres.

Its called 'garage gas' and is an argon/co2 mix

I dont do a lot of welding, only smallish jobs 2 or 3 times a week, Ive had this bottle 14 months and its still got plenty left.

If you are using gas quickly, you are either doing a hell of a lot of welding, or more commonly have the regulator much to high.

i have my reg set around 6lbs as i use outside often and god knows what an exhaust would look like after a stick weld lol.

I do odd car mot jobs aswell too sorry i did,nt mention it in my first post thats one reason i went mig i can also weld a lot longer as its a tidy mig not a toy short cycle then rest etc i just want to refill a large bottle so i aint back n too and it costing me a fortune for spiders n dust to live on etc untill next time i use it

The only place you are going to get a full size cylinder is with an account, BOC and the likes are tightening up on what they are calling “loose cylinders” because they are loosing a fortune. It’s hard enough now and it’s only going to get worse. The writing is on the wall for off the books fill up's.

Recently BOC’s chap walked into a repair shop near me and took half a dozen bottles because there was no account to back them up. If you say they belong to a mate they tell you to send him to the depot to reclaim them

The use of bar codes and RFID tags is making it harder to get an off the books bottle re filled.

So your choices are get an account or a smaller cylinder (or two smaller cylinders?) If your business won’t support what is a basic overhead maybe it’s time to put the prices up?

find your local friendly farmer or engineer and off them some cash and they'll get the bottle swapped, i do it for a couple of people if they can supply a spare bottle to exchange. I only charge them what the gas costs so they get and a good deal and it costs me no more to do it!:thumbup:
