should he stay or should he go.....(Clarkson)

i`ve got no issue with the strikers, but i was a bit annoyed yesterday morning, i was on my way to work and came to road closed and diversion signs, so after a hell of a detour it turns out that a horse had been hit by a vehicle the night before and killed, but because the council guys were on strike they couldnt remove the horse and the road remained closed, the annoying thing was that a policeman was sat in his car further back down the road by a roundabout, instead of turning the traffic round there, people were driving up a fair stretch of road only to have to turn round and come all the way back, (sorry for derailing the clarkson thing)

I am gonna stick my head out of the trenches here and say my bit! :ridinghorse: I work for a local council and I agree that some schemes dont always work out to be profitable projects but thats part of providing a service for the public rather than a running a profitable business. And yes there are, as with all companies people who work harder and do more than others. I have worked for private companies also and work as hard as the next man. It makes me laugh when I hear people saying council workers are lazy and over paid and should have there pensions altered and be made to pay more to get less.. what they need to remember is that the front line council workers are predominently low paid compared to those in the private sector, they are cards in, pay ALL their taxes dont get the chance to swindle- (you know what i mean- cash in hand- cash money-back pocket and all that!) and have signed up to a good pension as part of their employment, so why should they suffer just because the government has run the country into the ground. If working for the council is that good why dont you do it. What I am trying to say is dont tar everyone with the same brush!

As for Clarkson, I think he is funny and entertaining one of the few left who says a few controversial things joking or not, some people need to grow up and realise there is more to life than scrutanising everything they hear.

I am sure you let me know what you think about what ive just wrote.

This has been shown to be a total myth, in fact most PS workers are considerably better paid than those in the private sector.

The change to pensions is not just about the deficit, its about people living longer.

When the pension age of 65 first came in the average man lived to 65 and 8 months, so that was very affordable, we know have people claiming their pension for longer than they worked, that just not sustainable!!!

Yes you were promised X,Y and Z, but so were many who took out private pensions and they have now ended up with something nothing like what they were promised

Sorry but that is rubbish, in like for like situations council workers are almost always paid more than their private sector equivalent, private sector hospital cleaners are paid less than council employed cleaners as are bin men, gardeners, tree surgeons and any other trade. Its is in the white collar jobs where the council pay falls behind the private sector. Plus they get shorter working weeks, longer holidays, and even under the proposed scheme a far better pension than most private sector workers could dream of.

At the end of the day (i hate that saying) we all have our opinions, and quite rightly so...

Now, you can't please everybody, and never will, joe will always be unhappy because bills got a better pension and bill's not happy coz bob has retired earlier

The simple matter is, the world is riddled with a parasitic species who will never be happy:biggrin:

Ps i'm an agency worker for a LA and get paid more than the actual full timers.... and we all get paid less than a lot of arborists... work that one out???:001_rolleyes:

ha....the ironic thing is that the whole pension arguement is largely a mute point as anyone in the 40's and under age bracket is deluded if they think there is actually going to be such a thing as pensions when they reach retirement age.

Clarkson's well known for overblown statements for comedic effect. It was probably a silly thing to say on a prime-time programme like the One show.

BUT the reaction today has been ridiculous! Why can't people understand the concept of dark humour or context? If everyone knows he's a bit of a goon and says things for effect why worry that people would take him literally?!
