Like the set up Ian. Would putting a revolver crab in instead of the ring work quicker? I'm thinking bend radius with the revolver, & cant remember if it's a 3 way locking crab as this will be used for TIP. Can you see any prob's with this as once in the tree I am not a fan of base tie off too from reading a previous post (yours I think) which made alot of scene to me.

That's it I'm converted, had my first go on a RW today on a oak reduction, did one quarter on my SJ then after a quick coffee break setup the RW and took it for a spin, and I'm not going back :thumbup1: it was awesome, messed about abit with the length of the lanyard and got it working well,

also played with a few redirects and installed a RADS system with a kong duck and micro pulley but soon gave that up as I found it easier to just come back in normally, just need to tinker about with ascending and TIP methods and there'll be no stopping me haha

Hey Ian,

I used it in my TIP today & found out while messing about with different set ups that side loading of the crab can become an issue in some situations, so looks like ring set up & PITA now & then is the way to go for now.

Cheers for the info about strops & connectors as back up too.

Hopefully ive managed to post a photo of my Spiderjack/ropewrench set up. After a bit of trial and error i have found that this set up works for me. i have not had any issues with the RW interfering with the SJ and its easy to switch back to Ddrt. Very useful bit of kit thanks to Kevin :thumbup1:

I think that you wouldn't use a carab/revoler as it will side load, especially on larger stems... just my thoughts

What about a Maillon or something similar. I'm just thinking of alternatives to feeding all the tail through the alpine butterfly.

The Maillon would be attached to the butterfly and the tail dropped into it before screwing it closed.

It would be strong enough with no side loading issues. Cheap option too.

What do you guys think.
