Rope Wrench feedback

Recommended Posts

So far there has not been a whole lot of comps that have taken place for the 2012 season. but the wisconsin comp was won by a wrench climber, so was the Ohio comp in 2011, the Indiana comp was won by a wrench climber, the "geezers" comp 40 yrs+ was won by a wrench climber. Several work climbs have been won by wrench climbers. I was never able to hit the landing in ddrt but with the wrench I can nail it every time because I dont get hockles. It makes a load of sense for Masters climbs.

That sounds good, I may make a video of me working a tree, 1st with DdRT, then with the Rope Wrench/SRT, same climb, same route, same problems, that would be cool to see from my helmet-cam viewpoint.

but in the meantime, this is a short little vid Kevin made showing the advantages over DRT and regular SRT.

sorry mate, if you were answering to me i did not see your post...:blushing:

good video link, and would be nice for you to do one to....

I'll be perfectly honest, when I first tried the RW, I hated it...kept going back to DdRT, almost sent it back to Treestuff.com so someone else could give it a go :blushing:

I kept at it, read more, watched more vids, talked to Kevin about it, then suddenly one day on a big prune, I decided to use it all day in the tree.

BAM, the light in my sometimes dimwitted brain clicked on, bold and brite:001_tongue:

I worked that tree in record time, planned my climb and got to places almost impossible with DRT due to friction trouble.

came out of the tree, and with a worried-heart, tentatively tugged at my multi-redirected KM111; it all came out slick as sour owl poop.

I was hooked and have never went back, I just keep finding ways to make climbing easier, faster and more fun, and this equates to me climbing longer and making more $$ cheers!

Anyone want to lend me a RW :001_smile: I am kind of a big deal

Marc, I have just bought a RW & if you are up for a rec climb we should sort out a time soon.

I can see what you are saying about DRT. I have not had much experience in SRT but bought the RW primarily for access with a quick bail out option.

However I will give work climbing a fair run on this system even though I am a rope climbing climber probably more than I would like to admit.

I had the same misgivings but now the only time I use ddrt is to change TIP's.

...I love the wrench.

...I am looking at ways to make it more.......bombproof, while retaining its fluidity.

Have you tried the RW with your Uni? I have and will do a post on it soon.

Suffice it to say that the Unicender, being able to work a single rope by itself, adds hugely to the safety. Adding the RW refines and simplifies control and will reduce wear, big-time.

Dave,

I use the unicender and I can't see why you would want to use it with a RW? Can't wait to see your findings and new thread.
