Downsides

Towing to vehicle capacity

Need to pay for trailer licence

need to buy a 14ft flatbed, pay for it to have a tipper fitted, then buy and bastardise a small chipper

smaller chip capacity than a transit

its a cumbersome unit, unlike a small road tow and tranny

not very versatile

gonna be expensive and probabally unreliable unless you can fix it yourself

what i would do

your gonna have to get a trailer test, tipp trailer, and chipper anyway, keep it a trailer and a chipper and spend the conversion money on hgv licence and get a 7.5t iveco

I think this month the eu is making it law no homemade trailers with brakes allowed unless type approved or under 750kg gross weight.(Look up western towing news for this info.) Google landplan landscapers and look under there treework section for tractors with trailer/chipper combo. But personally I think you are making a vosa magnet. When empty versus full axle weight distribution and the nose end up or down is a big frown. It is a great idea for more reasonable times.

All good points. I suppose its not such a great idea after all. Well to be fair I knew there was a massive chance it wouldnt work I just needed to know why :laugh1:

The problem is a HGV course is so expensive and then ill have to get C+E which would be even more. B+E licence is a lot cheaper. Seems there is no way around it!

HGV is a expensive way as well, Initial course £s O licence £s Road tax £s MPG £s then of course the new cpc which is to be done every 5 years which is 5 days at £100 per day plus loss of earnings. It was a good idea, best way currently is tractor and trailer on just a car B category. It might be worth doing a deal with skip company if you dont want chip. Only hire skip not a driver waiting the get resale on chip. You could get favourable rate on waste removal. No hassle with regulations.
