after 5 years of working together i'm surprised by the turn of events, cheers for the advice guys:thumbup:

I would have a quite word with him and get it sorted. it's easy for people to say drop him as a client but you can't of there isn't much work out there.

if he's in business and cant afford to pay you at end of week then he's either not very good in business or taking you for a mug mate... my lookon at it is if he cant pay at end of day after doing a job he shouldnt be doing it...had same conversation with guy who does bit climbing for me... he wanted my mog and chipper on the cheap for 3 days.. then wanted my big tracked grinder at cheap day rate... but couldnt pay till he'd been payed.. i said do i tell you that when you've done a days climbing...

He has already been given the run around. Nobody is saying spit the dummy and storm out, rather that he should quietly replace the late payer in his client list as soon as possible then dump them without fuss after ensuring any outstanding money due is paid.

Sounds like he's trying to run before he can walk.

It really annoys me we so seem to expect others to subsidies their business be expecting them to wait for payment:thumbdown:

it will get worse before it gets better....... doesnt matter what trade you are in, things are hard out there, italy, greece......ireland, the uk's own deficit, all adding to an already stressed system, keep firm with your payment terms, if you're on invoice terms then stick to that credit limit you have set them, if they cant pay you £500 they sure as hell wont pay you £1500 in 2 weeks time...

Have had quite a bit of trouble myself this year getting money out of people I have subbied for and have heard every excuse under the sun some of them absolute crackers.I dont need to hear excuses its not forgotten homework it is my livelyhood. The problem I think is the margins are alot tighter and too many people giving it a go at the contracts. There was a time when putting the paperwork required to tender for bigger jobs meant something these days an eight year old child could download all the method statements and health and safety policies ect put your company name on it and your off having not a clue what any of it says or means.

Just because you have access to finance kit wether this be from the bank of mum and dad or elsewhere and think an nd is enough training and have read forestry journal and arbtalk ect does not make you a contractor

Not quite sure what to do about my current situation. I'm a subby and its always been an unwritten rule that i'm payed on the day or at the end of the week. If theres an issuse with money and asked if i can wait then i generally will.

I'm just having real issues with the guy i do alot of my work with I'm reguarally being paid late, over the last few months every couple of weeks i'm having to wait longer due to cashflow probelms. This i can deal with but its the comments of "i haven't been paid so can't pay you, its just how it is" that are really starting to grate. I'm a chilled out guy when it comes to money but i'm getting in quite a mood over this.

Do i suck it up or have it out with him?

do you mind me asking how long are you having to wait?

from an objective point of view, maybe the guy is genuinely having a tough time of it. things are much different to five years ago. anyone can go through a rough spell with cashflow.
