Been porting and servicing a 346XP 45cc this weekend, nearly got it finished and to my surprise, found another faulty manufactured OEM Husqvarna carb elbow.

The tank breather pipe is pushed on to a union just below where the air filter pushes on to. This union should have a hole straight through to the inside of the union and had previously found a faulty one on Stubbies 346XP after he had years of poor running. This one is 2006 so am amazed no one hasn't thrown it in the village pond but there you go - a damaged plastic mould tool and no tests on ensuring the hole is clear......and nobody found it until now!

Been working on this MS880, it has been seized and has some mighty strange damage to the top front edge of the piston crown. It almost looks like pre-ignition or a porous casting.

The bore cleaned up nicely, Meteor piston arrived today and am porting it - will check the flywheel key and set the mix a bit lower just to make sure as it looked like the top end was nearly new - another fine repair by others!

Looks like my 044 from earlier on in this thread, it was a dead ringer for that. It runs great now.

That a stihl piston?

Looks like it,  you can just see an 'S' in a box on the top face,  near the seized area,  second picture down....

That looks like a good one,  never fails to amaze me how bad the seizure can be and yet the cylinder can be rescued. On the piston,  I think that's 'just' a melted or vaporised surface - i bet the inside of the exhaust is grey too. Do you get the feeling the aluminium is actually burning during the melt down

You think it's failed twice then Spud? Guess you'll be looking for a reason then. ...

I have seen a large number of aftermarket chain brake bands being supplied without the dowel bar that stops the band pulling through the casing when applied. I have even seen one fitted without a dowel bar being fitted. A retaining dowel must ALWAYS be fitted.

THESE BANDS SHOULD ALWAYS BE FITTED WITH THE ROUND DOWEL FITTED, FAILURE TO DO SO MAY CAUSE THE BAND TO BE DRAWN THROUGH THE RETAINING AREA OF THE CASING IT IS FITTED IN!!!!!

I don't like this cheapening up of a safety device and would think many may fit the part without recognizing the function of the little dowel rod retainer....be warned, keep safe!

I rarely sell machines I have refurbished but have been working on a 2009 MS460 that has been stood up for the last five years after being lean seized. You can see the original piston in one of the photos!

I have done some porting on this saw, the muffler hasn't been modded although it could be and the ignition has been advanced a little. It now has a Meteor piston in it, the cylinder is fine and compression is very healthy. The saw has been pressure and vacuum checked, the carb has been stripped and checked and it is very clean.

It won't be going at a bargain price as it now owes me a bit but if you are looking at a saw that will pull like a train and keep you in business then PM me for a price.
