Prussic, Blimey i still use a blakes hitch! Can't be doing with this new fangled stuff, like all technology it's something else to worry about and go wrong! You know where you are with a bit of rope! BAAAAHumbug!

Spiderjack & rope guide all the way , climbed 14 year on prussic, then blakes soo easy with new system ,, they do feel weird at first but once into them u won't go bak

Both have there merits, and both have there negatives. The skill of a good climber is to know when to use which one, and how to adapt it safely to your particular style of climbing.

different systems work for different people,i know plenty for whom the purisk loop is all thye use and want to use, even after trying other things. I know a few climbers who dislike the the technique of climbing up and then having to pull the slack through when using advanced hitches. The best thing is to have a go but remeber low and slow, and if something makes your life a little bit easier then is going to be worth it in the long run if you climb every day and work many years doing so then the small amount of effot it saves you is going to add up - and also is good to add more tricks. e.g leanring about the VT many years ago, brilliant knot for climbing, also use it when setting up fail safes on advantages systems, use it for lifiting, speedlines, the hitch climber i use to think was a gimick, i now own two, so useful not only just for hitch tending, but setting up false anchors, speed lining, great for when you use both ends of your rope... .lck jacks on the other hand......

Iam glad this has had some replys i will have to have a go, is a VT similar to a french prussik??? and what was the other? do these 2 systems include a micro pully?

i did see a teuflberger system is tht it?

 

also , (this might sound silly) is a lockjack and spiderjack and art positioner just a metal prussik? hmm

I just use my massive ladders for everything, although I did buy some Stihl braces for my jeans recently.

i went over to a lockjack, i tried a VT a few weeks back and did not like how grippy it was compared!

 

for people who dont like using the advanced hitch climbing style of pull up then tend slack, why not just get a 50cm sling and put that between you and your carabiner, then you can just pull from underneath leaving no slack!
