Something more lighthearted: A Manchester Waterstones employee said "we'll stay open, if they steal some books they might learn something" - Yeah, if they can read.

I think Waterstones and WH smiths are the safest places in the country at the moment.

When reading these reports on the rioting, I'm struck by how little attention is given to the underlying problem that the UK is breeding itself a burgeoning class of uneducated, unmoralled, unemployable idiots.

You have been to Heanor then.

IMO, hit hard, hit first, you cannot let people like these to rule the streets, at the first sign of trouble, no matter how small, then remove them by whatever means neccessary. This is just causing trouble for the sake of it. If it means using the army, rubber bullets, water cannons etc then do it.

I'm surprised the vigilantes havent been out yet, then there will be trouble (and not positive)

My thoughts are with all emergency response workers and also to anyone on hear affected by the troubles.

I am sure that if anyone on here is directly affected by the troubles then there will be a rally of help from the people on here.

rumblings in Leicester and Nottingham as well, getting closer to me. I walked down to the village today and told the local youth that I'd be watching him, he's only 6 but he wears a hoody so I thought it best to have a little word.

On a more serious note though, my heart goes out to those closely affected. It must be dire, to be so threatened in your own area, the authoroties not willing or able to get in control.

I'm all in favour of inclusive politics, talking before trashing them etc, but shoot the first 5 of these cretins in the knees and see how many others are wiling to have a go.
