chinese lanterns - nuisance or novelty

just had the fright of our life, pitch black outside and past the window flies a chinese lantern all fired up, i hate them, bloomin nuisance with hay making on the way and i think theres no place for them - am i being a party pooper or anyone else feel the same way

Sat outside one night for about 20 minutes watching two red glows in the distance slowly rising into the night sky before disappearing. Convinced we were watching UFO's and even took photos until we put 2 and 2 together and finally came up with 4.

They are a real liability, last year one landed on a house roof and set fire to the gutter while another landed on the brother in laws car and set fire to the scuttle, only the prompt action of the fire service saved the day (night)

the jury is still out here but if one lands on my poly tunnel and sets off £10,000 worth of dry logs I know which way I will vote.

Given that they wont start falling before they go out, and will have reached a hell of a height before they do go out, there is minimal risk.I stronglysuspect there have been VERY few cases which have resulted in accidents from them when properly used....i.e not let off near thatched roofs etc etc as is generally advised on the packaging.

you's obviously havent seen a farm animal die in pain with the wire piercing there gut.Like Joy says they land in the crops then get chopped up.The nfu are trying to ban them.Bring it on
