The organiser must be a bit dense not to have considered the terrible PR that cutting down such ancient tree would cause :confused1:

I think MrH is about right though. If you refuse it you might be looking for another job at the end of the week.

Definitely a LISTED tree and do we have permission to chop it down?????

 

Do you mean that it's subject to a TPO (Tree Preservation Order) or it's a a Conservation Area? If either of those apply then don't even think about carrying out any work on with without the relevant paperwork in place.

 

If you're getting pressured to fell it anyway, tactfully (or not, depending how you feel that day) point out that you're not prepared to risk your reputation and a possible £20,000 plus fine.

Give your local Tree Officer a ring and tell him you have been asked to cut a a500 year old tree that you think shorly must have a TPO and you would like to cheack as your cutting it at the end of next week :biggrin:and see what responice you get.
