im intrigued by this, ive never heard or seen about it before !!

 

some mammals chew things for health reasons usually rat/hamster kinda things!!

ive had lots of puppys that like to chew, yet they all grew out of it or were taught some obediance!!!

 

to chew a tree like that aint 10 mins work!! must be a new credit rating of the burberry *folk* down 'in da hood' maybe?????????????????? !!!

Here in the states I have not seen this behavior from a dog. I suspect it is something taught by the owners. First class Jack wagons.

Thats why they need their dogs. Imagine being so unpopular that you find solace in a vicious worthless breed.

Status dog = poor man's sports car

 

It's very sad that there are so many mostly young, mostly men that have so little sense of their own self worth that they have to try and achieve social standing and kudos by the dogs that they own.

 

Staffies, and other bulldog breeds, are generally very good family pets and are no more or less likely to be aggressive than any other breed. Any dog can be trained to be vicious by an ignorant owner; it's unfortunate that these types of dogs have the muscle power to make them truly dangerous when used as living weapons. Dogs being trained to strenghten their jaws by chewing trees is increasingly common, especially in inner city areas - exactly the kind of areas where trees and green spaces are most needed and more valuable.

 

How do you engage these people and persuade them that "their" trees are worth protecting and not being used as dog toys? I have no idea, unfortunately

Given that the owner is legally responsible for the actions of the dog, doesn't that make this criminal damage? Can't the owner be prosecuted?

 

On second thoughts, that is probably a stupid suggestion. If plod can't catch/prosecute the theiving scum who pinch our tools, there's little hope that they'll be interested in this sort of thing.

the owner probably started the dog off didnt they? I have never known a dog do it naturally.

 

You're right, it never is natural behaviour of an adult dog. The dog must have been taught and started off by the owner to display this kind of behaviour, just as an Alsatian was incited to vandalize this Taxodium by its Dutch female owner.

Retraining a dog not to bite trees is very easy

 

 

Parting the dog from it's scumbag owner is more difficult.

 

Somebody with photo's of damaged trees should get intouch with ITN who may run something on this new trend to highlight the problem and point out it is criminal damage ??
