so have i missed something, it sounds like your wearing your spikes with a pair of walking boots?

He's in NZ, he can do that. Same as in most of Europe, they all wear scarpas from what i can tell.

I hate spikes, only put them for chogging if I have to.

hate them if possible i leave them off until chogging, to get out on nasty bare branches if there's no easier way of dealing with them. If i can i'll leave pegs to stand on and chog like that rather than put spikes on.

I also found that many who don't like using spikes either haven't used them much or are scared of them. I don't want to tar everybody with the same brush though. In Oz we had to wear them as the site supervisor wanted us up and down the Gum trees as fast as posssible, most of which were just poles. My work in NZ has been mostly take downs so I've been used to wearing them almost permanently to the point where I've just ordered a set of carbon fibre ones. Like I said before, nothing to do with being lazy it's just my preferance and I find I can speed up my take downs by using them, the same as some find they slow their work down.

I used to have no hair on my calves and shin because they were never off! Lol

Gums are slippy as, I hate working on them unless it's a dismantle.

I have the alloy geckos, no more pain and slipping pads, I used to get them stuck when I first got them as I was used to my blunt bashlins, I never sharpened them just kicked them in harder ha!:)
