MOT for trailers? ID for trailers?

Coming soon to an EU country near you! and sooner than you think!

That'll take your mind of all the worlds problems. (seen what happened in Basildon today?)

As Steve said ours (518) had issues with the drawbar snapping where the bar goes under the chassis.

Andy is the drawbar on the 518 similar to the old 528s height adjustable drawbars? the older 528s drawbar and trailer chassis design seem bombproof.

Found this pic on the web - not easy to make out the drawbar, but it joins the chassis under the engine rather than at the front of the engine. Will see if I can find a better pic, not sure why Jensen changed the trailer design on the 530s? maybe to get the chipper chute nearer to the back of a chip truck etc. They also lowered the height of the chute on the 530s which meant it became impossible to fire chips over 8ft high fences and walls - which the 528s are excellent for

Norway is getting "MOTs" for Trailers next year.

I was in my mates Muffler Shop today when the inspectors came in to have a look,he is going to off the MOT service. They agreed the new law had nothing to do with road safety as the ammount of fatal accidents involving Trailers is mainly limited to Agricultural Vehicles.Oh and wait,Ag use is except.

WTF.

im not posting any pics of my kit if this is the reaction!! Yeah the chipper could do with a bloody good pressure washing...but surely the point of the thread was to highlight that the chasis could go on YOUR chipper so keep an eye out for rust, cracks, stresses, wear and tear.

I'd rather people kept on posting these incidents on arbtalk than keeping it under wraps for fear of getting a load of jip!

Yeesh! I was just trying to say that if you clean the gear once in a while it is EASIER to see a crack or weakening of the metal when it begins not after it's sat there rusting for a while. Surely better spotted early before it becomes a major? A similar failure like this could happen to any wheeled vehicle. Would you be happy if it failed on the motorway and wiped out the wife's car just because someone didn't bother checking it properly?

As for MOT's on trailers; all road vehicles here have to have a warrent of fitness before they are allowed on the road. That inlcudes trailers of any type. Not such a stupid idea when you see some of the home built efforts on people's lawns.
