Opinions needed for an economical car please

Citroen c1/aygo/pug 107. All have same everything pretty much. I dont exactly drive economically but a full tank which is currently £45 to the brim from almost empty will last a week. 72 mile trip 3 days a week and loitering at weekends. I get between 45 and 50 easily. Drive steady and I've seen 60!

 

could not agree more 107 is a very economical car, me and my dad once went to holland in a 107, and thought the fuel gauge was broken because it did not move until we had done 80 ish miles:thumbup:

The Astra van is good. Driving non conservatively I got 500 miles to the tank.

Plenty of room in back for kit and some have a fold down bench seat in the back.

buy an old petrol shogun, dirt cheap - save your 2k for fuel, they do about 16mpg > 20mpg on a run

I miss my astravan if i didn't need a 4x4 then i would most prob have one dont have any experience with much else though.

mrs had a vw touran for the last few years, even i was getting 65+mpg (i've got a very heavy right foot)

i use the vw transporters and they give me 40-45mpg and thats towing the tracked jensen

my 2.0 hdi returned 48mpg on average, and 45mpg doing 90mph!! (not that i have ever been that fast....)

loads of room in the back, just like a van really with the seats down. for £2k+ you could get a 2002 reg with low ish miles.

astra vans are spot on, but what about a berlingo in car disguise, roomy and decent fuel returns. Also heard good things about fiat doblo's.

Skoda Octavia estate-fold the seats down uv got a van and not as pricey as VWs and Audis for parts-sold mine to get me 90!

Have you thought about getting the Rangie lpg converted?

 

Okay, so the mpg won't improve, but the cost of the fuel would go down by about 40%.

 

Alternatively, what about something like this - better mpg, still 4x4, not too dinky:
