Not quite sure where to post this but renewing my shotgun cert I find that I now need a medical pro forma from my local practice at £107 plus the cost of the cert. When did this come about?

It's more a check of your records than an actual medical.

Whilst not a legal requirement, the FEO have pretty much made it a default requirement even more so for Section 1.

Usual blame shifting I thinks, since 2019 approximately as in the past they just asked them to say something.

But, usual dr's unless it's a few quid they won't say so made it another form filling exercise, providing your ok and not on antidepressants or migraine meds they'll have very few questions.

Get a digital copy and keep it too.

Plus some drs can refuse to do it.

Nevertheless I might just bow out and let it go, I virtually only use it for moles now anyway. I gave up clays a good few years ago and grey squirrels just creates a swiftly filled vacuum. It is as you say just a form filling exercise, with no actual examination.

One of the funniest things I’ve seen is my mate standing in his garden with a Browning Auto 5 and two boxes of fags, hoping to blast a mole. Literally hours.

Plus you don't actually need to own a shotgun to have a certificate. But it's good for the grandkids, when you fancy a rare day out with the clays.

Makes borrowing or using a club gun or relatives easier.

I'd actually recommend anyone with kids to get them a certificate,  as soon as possible as it makes section 1 easier with history.
