Why does it always seem to turn into the uneducated slating the educated and the educated slating the uneducated. Anyone who hasn't or isn't capable of achieving the level of education I have is not automatically a more exciting person than me you know. I have proved I can work on both sides of the fence.

Is this the same as working with smart people and thick people?, because if so, I think I do this as well :-)

More working in a job which requires intelligence and qualifications as well as doing a job which is more 'practical skills' based.

bottom line Tony is you need to earn more money to get what you want, if you arent getting that being employed then the only thing to do is go yourself and earn some descent money and answer to no one, this is possible with the use of the forum, you will find someone on here with a truck and chipper that needs a top climber/cutter for the bigger jobs, so they have the kit that costs thousands and you have your harness and rope job done, i know you have been through the self employed wars but that was then, this is now. you need to have a devision between work and pleasure, one pays for the other and the other keeps you sain.

You know what I mean though.

Yes i do and this divide is something i wish to see ended, for it isnt constructive to any of us.

This problem is due to both sides feeling that all the effort they have put in should be rewarded, the academics feel hard done by if we succeed without going through thier hardships (for want of a better word) and the practical arbs want recognition for thier different but EQUAL hardships. We are all on the same gravy train, we are all just trying to earn a living and be the best we can be, surely we should recognise each other, with or without a double barreld name and letters proceeding or following it!

Currently the academics live in an ivory tower and USE it, whereas we havent a leg to stand on despite being equaly as inteligent and capable.

The irony, as i have discovered much to my delight is that this issue seems to only exist within the middle ranks of the educated, once you go over thier heads you find the "true elite" are open to your views and knowledge, they are generous with thier time and willing to get you up to speed and never assume your not able to keep up, for if you wasnt asking them chalenging questions in the first instance, well.... it aint rocket science boys and girls, its just arboriculture, and NOONE knows it all, were only just scratching the surface of it, were on the first page, so we are all equal, were all at the start.

To me your Thread sounds like a self sympathetic rant.

Sounds no different to anyone else who has strived to better themselves through education or the desire to have their own company.

Bleeting to us about the encountered hardships in your endevour to become more qualified is not a constructive excercise. No one is "against you",either here or outside in the real world.

True intelligence is no good to anyone without loads of other personal attributes. If you think you are an intelligent man but you are working as hard as you can, and getting nowhere, i'd suggest you are doing the wrong things.

You can have the greatest mind in the world, but if you cant sell your skills to anyone, you will never make any money. I know you claim to be non-financially motivated, and I believe you. Time comes though when you need be realistic and realise you need a decent amount of money to survive in the modern world.

I know you spend a lot of time pondering the Alan Rayner ideas, photographing fungi and such like. While its interesting it doesn't really have any commercial value. Maybe put your 'hobbies' on the back burner for a while and concentrate on purely making money.:thumbup1:
