Tractor question...

For those in the know about such things.

Are there any compact tractors, 45hp there abouts, that can be equipped with a front 3 point linkage?

Winch in front, chipper behind.

    Thanks

Zoidburg make one for baby tractors. Just be careful about overloading the front axel.

I've fitted an electric winch (Superwinch TS9500) on a towbar adaptor to the front of my tractor. With a wireless remote control (dirt cheap!) it's awesome. What winch do you have and does it not need hydraulic/PTO power (which would be at the back)?

I have a 2009 Kubota STV40 compact tractor, 40hp, which I rate highly. I have converted a Fairey Land Rover PTO winch to hydraulic drive quite easily and mounted this on a 3 point linkage ground anchor. Only used it once so far but it worked well. With a bit of fabrication for some mountings I can't see why an off the peg hydraulic winch could not tick the box for light duties. It's never going to be heavy duties with tractors of this size, although I have been known to anchor the back of my series 3 Land Rover to a tree to allow the PTO winch to give serious pulling power.

Sorry Stu, I know it was just a typo but it made me laugh.  I wouldn't trust anything made by this malacostracan.

Zuidberg make the linkage and the other is creepy lobster doctor from the year 3000. Easy mistake to make. They are very good come and fit it and everything. Pricy but very useful, priced one up for an n series Valtra and it was about 4k tapped off a spool valve. That was a good few years back.

Our 45hp AGT has front linkage and PTO although currently bypassed as it hydraulic and leaking and is 1000rpm so not suitable for a winch… I’m pretty sure it was fitted for a front mower.

Im sure they will do a slower hydraulic pto though but I think ultimately I would replace the whole lot with a hydraulic winch, the other thing is towing a chipper you are still limited as the wheels are too narrow for proper off road work.

Only thing with a hydraulic winch is that alpine hydraulic outputs are normally not great.

also, hydraulic winches tend to be for recovery. Big torque from smallish motors means they are painfully slow for recovering timber and dangerously slow / useless for assisted felling.
