Timberwolf tw125 kohler engine year 2000

Hi guys, I'm in a shit situation and wonder if anyone has any knowledge about it.

My chipper is a year 2000 tw125 with a kohler engine, it's been playing up and been in the local dealers garage today, they have said the engine is knackered and it's non repairable, I asked if a new engine is an option and they said its too old and can't be done.

Anyone know if you can change an engine out for a new one? 

I'm a 1 man band and without it I'm stuffed and looks like I may be hanging up my gloves as I can't afford a new chipper, the shell of mine is in great condition with no rust or issues, I thought they would be able to stick an engine in without any issues.

What have they said exactly about what's wrong ?.

 

Next stop is to read the model numbers off the top.

 

I'm sure with a bit more detail of what's wrong or what's needed something can be done instead of spending money on another used chipper.

My 125 had a Honda GX690 on it.

I can’t see why you couldn’t swap it out for one.

Sounds like a Kohler air cooled V twin?

 

Engines are still available as well as parts.

 

What was the basis for their condemnation of the engine?

It was over fuelling the engine, wetting the air filter and not getting the high revs, that's what I took it in for.

They have stripped it open to have a look and said that it is certainly over fuelling but 1 side of the engine the seals are leaking and the other side has no compression.

They have said to rebuild it would cost the same as a new engine and too much labour to do, that's why I said well how much would you charge to supply and fit a new engine? 

They have now said timberwolf won't supply an engine as they have discontinued the 125 model and my 2000 model is too old.

The only ones I've seen are honda engine which makes that a replacement anyway. No need to buy it from TW, mates have changed theirs and from what he said it was pretty straightforward apart from a bit of cut and weld to get the exhaust to fit.  Less than a grand for the engine.

I'll have a look at places to get the honda engine, does anyone know which it is? 

I've seen the gx630 and gx690 in them.

If you are good with spanners and can fit a new engine, give unipower at Dunmow a ring, they do replacement engines for timberwolf chippers. 

My 18/100 with kohler engine had big trouble, changed it for Briggs.
