This is a good thing in my opinion .

Part of a visa application is a character assessment.  They will usually ask the question " do you have a criminal record" as well as ask for Say your past 5 employers as well as qualifications.

The process takes anywhere from a couple of weeks to a few months, you might even have to pitch up at the embassy for an interview ( America I did have to). So in short it's s protection for their nation as well as yourself.

Going from experience employing young blokes from the UK,a bit more of a process than just jumping on a flight and after landing being stunned that everything is different might have weeded out the dreamers and saved both parties huge hassel?

I see your point.

My experience was different in that I already had a mate working for the German firm so I knew what I was getting myself in to.

Probably time to start seriously investigating the feasibility of a degrowth economy. The relentless pursuit of growth isn't working out for our Rachel, or anyone else, given that we live on a very much finite planet. Disregarding Musk and Bezos's crazy ideas to colonise Mars, or whatever they are thinking today.

Don't think you need to investigate a degrowth economy, look at the world it's stagnation and recession.

Every day I read of more councils effectively going bankrupt, Wirral this morning.

Then it's oh your council tax is going up, mad Burnham wants more more for the police to pay the tax bill and now more for busses and trams, radio is saying 1000 a year for a bee network pass.
