I've had people call me up just to say how clever/amusing they find the name of my company, they didn't even want any work done, but you can be sure, when they do....... Company name and logo are IMO of the utmost importance. It's all about 'brand recognition'. When a prospective client wants tree work done, I want them seeing my logo in their mind's eye, ie. the Dr. 'listening' to the tree with the stethoscope, and to be calling me.

Have just driven back from the alps and was just thinking the same thing ( ie business names) came up with - Tree Tennors - Tree Musketeers - Tree amigos

had a laugh with the missus, but came to the conclusion that it might give people a laugh but they would probably call someone who sounded a bit more professional!?? still like Tree Musketeers though....

as i see it,

it depends on how you want to develop the business if you want to stay as a self employed man then using your name tells folks 'just that' the business is a smaller end business & that will appeal to those who want a face to face personalized job

those gimicy names 3fellas toptrees cutabove etc also have a place they get a smile, but to my mind I dont want someone working for me who doesnt take their business perseption seriously, & I'm sure they struggle to get taken seriously by organisations who are serious about the contractors they employ

as they say if business was easy everyone would be doing it .............

at which ever market you punt yourself

my advice .... remain professional

Dont toatally agree with you on this bit, I can think of several large (non-arb) businesses that use their own names, eg WHSmith, J Sainsbury. I do agree with the fact that the smaller domestic market may prefer a "name" as it appears more friendly and personal. At the end of the day, its just about beng recognized, and remembered, and hopefully for all the right reasons.

Most pvt customers tend to think of their local tree man by name..whats that chap called that did our trees last time?.They don't have a clue about arb.I went for something that includes my name and what I do,hence Castle Tree surgeons. But if I was a plumber would it be Castle toilet doctors..lol

Hehe Have a cpl of customers with great names..Mr Fuker and Mrs Horsefield her address....The paddock

We had a customer called Mrs Divers.

Just for a laugh we were all joking saying, " hey up, watch out, Mrs Muff is coming out" and jokingly calling her Mrs Muff to each other all day.

My mate only went up to her at the end of the day and said, "Right Mrs Muff, that's it, we're finished"

Her face was a picture!!

So was his, when he realised what he'd said. :proud:
