Chasing money

Some have had it easy, mum and dad had money and machines, contacts to help them on their way, some didn’t, they started with nothing and built up on their own with nothing more than a regular job, saved their money and set out on their own. I’m the later but at 53 I’m shattered, I’ve made my dough but It’s made a happy man very old. Tell us your story. Im sure I started a thread about this years ago but I couldn’t find it.

Getting lucky? Nearly 16 years.

Did the peeps you know stretch themselves in every day jobs to get there?

Did they have sleepless nights thinking about it?

Yeah, figured you’d take it personally, not intended as a dig, but no matter.

 

Everyone of those peeps had sleepless nights, and had to stretch themselves to pay their mortgages at some point.


Our generation (at least those that bought property around the turn of the century or thereabouts) benefitted from something like a 3x increase in prices, it’s like winning the lottery.

If you’re looking to buy property now, as we did, all those years ago, you have a much harder time.

 

We were lucky, nothing more, nothing less.

The maths of it today compared to pre-2000 is just depressing. 

I'm happy for my folks, obviously, and everyone like them who worked for their homes, but the reality is a lot of my generation aren't going to get on the ladder until their patents die.

Just keep lining the landlords pockets until then!

This applies to millions Mick but does it matter as long as you make money.

We (here in the UK) are somewhat addited to owning our own property.

It's almost a sense of failure if we don't however in lots of other countries, rental is 'normal'.

 

I have friends in Denmark who aren't in the slightest bit interested in buying.

Les hit it on the head. As long as your incoming is greater than your outgoings you are doing well.

Don't fall into the PCP trap, buy with cash, if you don't have enough cash, find something cheaper.

You really don't need a TV contract @ £70 a month.

You don't need a phone @ £40 a month.

You don't need a £2000 holiday.

 

Borrow 'business money' from the bank, their reality check will stop you overstretching and not being able to pay back.

Work hard and diversify when you can ...  you could fix that gate for £50 and relay those slabs, unless you are so busy that you haven't got time, in which case you are making money ...
