How many knots do you know/use?

Great thread Mick.

Knots are a pretty fascinating subject.

You never know it all.

Sometimes a bomber knot isn’t safe, but that same knot WITH A STOPPER will never fail.

Get two bits of cord with different diameters.

Any shite will do, a bootlace and a piece of paracord.

A metre of each will do.

Learn to tie knots.

So much online.

If you can’t be arsed go back to gardening, or to your caravan.

Any groundie who can’t pick up a marlin spike on day one needs to fuck off.

has the sheepshank and monkey's paw been mentioned yet

I’ve always called the knot where you make a little bunch then throw it over the branch and the knot unravels so you can grab it a Monkeys  paw or Turks head.

But looking on google they seem to be decorative knots.

Anyone know the knot I’m talking about?

Are we not going to give the bowline on a bight a mention?

My go to knot for tying midline and pulling trees over with machines.

Never difficult to undo.

Give the truckers hitch a go for that, it’s a masterpiece of applied mechanics.

Trucker's hitches all over this expensive piece of metal, one in a loop of tat holding the three legs together,  and one on each guy line to stop her from keeling over. Quick and dirty way to get a bit of tension on a line.

Barely visible to the right of the picture next to that red rope bag is a slower and more powerful way to get a bit of tension on the line, enough to start approaching the forces required to destroy the system... if it weren't for the load limiting devices being used.

Highlines.  Fun stuff.

I was meaning it more as a midline loop for pulling, but I’m sure everyone knew that.
