where the hell are people finding new groundmen? ive tried facebook and all i get are muppets

but i dont need to be paying for a trained qualified chainsaw lad to rake up and drag brash

Maaaate, if you want drag slags, you need unemployed pub mates, university sorts on leave or whatever they do, smack heads in need of a bag, and people between jobs.

 

Put another £40 on the job and pay the going rate.

‘Cheap’ is the key word here.

Unless you’re offering some kind of structured training, not just some vague offer of teaching them stuff as and when you feel like doling out some advice you’ll struggle in the current climate to find what you’re looking for.

Reach out to a local Arb college. They will need companies to put their students on placements. Usually only one day a week but nothing stopping you getting the lad/lass in more days if they are keen.

The hardworking conscientious reliable type that you're looking for will probably be out earning better than what you're offering for cheap labour.

I’ve subbed into a company today that I’ve not worked for before, we had a young lad with us, big lump of a kid admittedly, who earned his coin, £120/day. Talking to the boss man, the young’un is VfM, when we got chatting over a pint the boss said, I either pay him that rate or he’ll be off elsewhere. As Mick says, you want cheap, get someone on the dole, or down the pub, but don’t expect much from them,

Or just price the job to pay a decent wage to a qualified goundsperson that will make your life easier, get the job done and probably earn you more money in the long run.

I have found that paying the bit extra, gets me a lot more.
I was paying a newly qualified climber , just turned 21, a rate of £145 per day.(good money for Teeside )

In return he worked hard every day without a grumble and earned me some good money

 

Nothing worse than a worker that is being paid less than what they think they are worth.
