If I only have to throw it on the fire already seasoned and split, I’d go with yew. If I have to process it as well, then larch thinnings or slabwood.

The dead standing elm round here is 2ft-4ft wide, if it's straight grained it splits ok, if it's knarly it's a bugger, burns well though

All I have ever worked on is post DED regrowth, 12” max. Nice, light wood, never enough to be a staple firewood, just guest appearances.
