Mower Recommendations for large Mossy Lawn

As above, I mow about 2.5 acres and the lawn is very mossy. I think the lawn is too big for scarification and moss treatment.

I currently use an ancient 24 hp petrol ride on Honda with a 50 inch deck with collection bags. There is nothing wrong with it (just a bit slow) so I would probably keep it as a spare.

The lawn is fairly square, uniform and without lots of obstacles, so I'm not obsessed with maneuverability/zero turn etc.  I just find the current mower too slow - it can take 4 hours to do the whole thing.  I have this vison of being able to drive around the lawn with a powerful and fast side-eject non-collecting mower. But I have no experience of these.  What type of mower would you recommend?

Thanks,

What's the budget is big question,

Fastest way would be a compact with roller mower if you want a nice finish.

Not sure of budget yet, I'm just trying to find out what type of mower to go for.  Then I'll look at new versus second hand etc.  Do you mean a compact tractor?

Probably best looking for a ex council diesel Kubota, four hours of petrol mowing on a 24hp must be best part of £20 Vs £5 on diesel.

I'm not that keen on diesel as I do not know how to work on diesel engines.  Diesel would be a new fuel to collect and keep track of (ontop of pure unleaded and mix).  Fuel cost not that important in terms of the total cost.

You’d be surprised. I’ve seen self propelled scarifiers before, with a seat and a collection box, like a large ride on lawnmower!

sorry life is too short, I just want a mower thanks.

Petrol mowers, Cub Cadet are very fast and robust as machines go. Strong build but simple design.

Rather than sticks for steering they use a traditional steering wheel which makes things easier. I have two Cubs both are very fast and don't need much maintenance. They also have big powerful engines. Their price ranges from £24,000 down to £4,500 with lots of options in between. I have their older commerical petrol which has a 60" deck, have had it from new for 8 years with little issues, it is used to mow a football pitch and a larger field on a regular basis.

Otherwise yes compact tractor with big deck on the back, something like a major with rollers to give a nice finish. But you would need both the tractor and the deck. 👍

Second here  for the Cub zero turn mower with the Kwaker engine . Used one of those a hell of a lot in the past . Can select it to cut when going backwards as well . Fast and as AJ says the steering wheel makes it simple .

2.5 acres in my book is sheep territory, but small diesels are pretty bomb proof providing you do your basic maintenance.

In all honesty it's more the low down grunt factor Vs the noise of a petrol.

Something like a stand on might be more suitable, plenty of USA types on YouTube flying around on them.
