Slate hearth installed over existing carpet

Wait and see if the slabs were just put there at quitting time and first thing they'll mark around them, cut the carpet, and lay them properly.

But if they intend to leave it like that then chase them.

If they're prepared to lay slabs on top of carpet then feck knows what else they're prepared to do, or may have done already.

Perhaps they’re just trial fitting it?

That's my first thought, if they are coming back to finish the job but have cut the slate then they need to put the slate somewhere till today?

That is of course assuming that it is just placed in place.

My only other thought is is it thick enough? Tricky to tell from the photos but I thought there had to be 25mm of non combustible area a certain distance in front of the stove -have to check - and of course if it is an existing fireplace then this should all ready be there and under the slate (and carpet)

Thanks again, a mate has had a look and the hearth has been set in place and is all level and they did cut the carpet and bedded the slate in with small gap , he said there is a small dip in the floor on the left hence the exaggerated gap.  I forgot to at first say I wasn't there to have a look myself.  I will be home soon to see why the floor dips.
